What is Ronald McDonald House?
Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton offers safe and economical accommodation to the families of critically ill children who are receiving care at our local children's hospital.
Imagine not only having a sick child, but facing the prospect of having nowhere to stay near them. Ronald McDonald House gives a sick child the one thing they really need – their family – by providing them with a home away from home.
The house supplies everything from fresh baked goods to laundry supplies – making it possible for families to focus on their number one priority – their sick child.
Our fundraising slogan is ‘keeping the lights on' because we rely on fundraising and donations from the community to fund the operations of this wonderful house that love built.
Ronald McDonald House has made an enormous difference to thousands of sick children and their families since it opened in 1993. Time and again our families thank us for the ‘kindness and support' they receive at the House and say they can't imagine how they would have coped without our service.
There are 12 Ronald McDonald Houses in Canada located in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, London, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City Halifax and Hamilton.
Every Ronald McDonald House is operated by an independent, non profit organization. Every house has a volunteer board of directors and a small staff. Assisted by a group of committed volunteers, the houses are generously supported by product and financial donations from countless individuals and companies at the local and national levels.
